GOD INSTRUCTS US:  Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise: which having no guide or overseer or ruler provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest.  How long wilt thou sleep O sluggard?  When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?  Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep; so shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man!  Proverbs 6:9-11.

Note:  It is not about busy for busyness sake. NO! We all know that the best place is what Mary chose, at the feet of Jesus.  He gave us talents that we are expected to use not sit on.  We have a responsibility to community, humanity to improve where we are or at least not leave it in a larger mess than we inherited.  CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT US, THE ME, MYSELF AND i.  EVERYTHING THAT JESUS DID, WITHOUT FAIL, WAS FOR SOMEONE ELSE.  That's maturity.  The ability to put you on the back burner and seek the good of someone else.  The ability, the WILLINGNESS TO SACRIFICE, for the greater good.

One thing is readily apparent, God does not like laziness.  We are told to be not slothful in business.  The comparison is to the life of an ant.  Ants are always diligent, frantic almost, busy about the business of provision.  Although God supplies all of our needs according to His riches in glory and tells us to be anxious for nothing, He still expects us to do more than hang out on the Beautyrest, the Simmons, the Sleep Number.  Amen.

We are told to study the ways of the ant. Ants get busy.  You are in your yard today, all is well.  Comeback this evening, very same spot and there is an ant hill.  Decide to have an outing.  Lay everything out.  Come back from grilling, call everyone to the meal, guess who beat you to it?  The ant and her crew. The ant  does not wait for the cold to strike or the rainy day to come---she plans ahead. Many people are scornful of the notion of having a plan, a one year, three year, five and ten year plan.  A plan requires meticulous thought of the destiny and then the directions.  You have to know where you want to go before you can design the plans to get there.  Obviously the ant has some 'architect' in her blood.  She also has some predator---ever step in a red ant bed?  They are all over you in not time flat.  Before you can yell ant that have swooped all over you.

The ant does not wait for someone to tell her what to do.  She knows what needs to be done and gets on the J O B.  She is prepared like the Virtuous Woman in the last chapter of Proverbs.  She does not sleep all day because she knows that when the shoe drops the lack of industry will cause what you have left to take feet and go, ie., something will come along and cause it to be consumed and the desperation that results becomes a stronghold---like an armed man. She prepares for her family.  Rainy dfays literally wash out some of her habitations.  Kids with matches and bugspray do the rest, BUT WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE CHECK GIRLFRIEND BUILDING AGAIN.  SHE IS NOT ON THE CURBSIDE HIGH WITH HER bffS MOURNING HER LOSS OVER A JOINT AND A FORTY.  NO, SHE IS ON TO THE NEXT PHASE!!!

Sleep can be real or spiritual ie., it can be calling the hogs with your zzzzzz's as we used to say or it can be the sleep of daydreaming, denial, refusing to come to grips with life, situations, circumstances, staying in the false security of alcohol, sex, the casino, the lottery, crack, relying on parents as though they will live forever like God, unemployment compensation extensions, the girlfriend's foodstamp allotment...
